REUNIR

REUNIR Video Series – Why is REUNIR relevant to policymakers?

REUNIR’s weekly video series continue with Florian Bieber, Professor for Southeast European History and Politics at the University of Graz and director of the Centre for Southeast European Studies.

Why is REUNIR relevant to policymakers?

What makes the REUNIR Project highly relevant is its unique approach to EU enlargement. By bringing together the Eastern Accession countries and the Western Balkans, REUNIR allows us to think about these regions holistically, something that hasn’t been done before in the EU enlargement process. We can now draw on lessons from the Western Balkan enlargement—what worked and what didn’t—and apply them to the unique challenges facing countries like Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia.

Additionally, REUNIR considers the broader context of regional threats—from military risks to socioeconomic challenges—and their impact on both the region and the EU. This comprehensive approach makes REUNIR essential for crafting concrete policy recommendations that can support a more timely and successful enlargement process in next years.
