Dr. Damir Kapidzic – REUNIR High-Level Lecture

Today, we are pleased to feature a video from our high-level lecture, “Challenges and Prospects for the Western Balkans on Their Path Towards the EU in a Geopolitically Changing World,” with International Centre for Defence and Security (ICDS) which captures Dr. Damir Kapidzic, Professor of Comparative Politics at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Sarajevo.

In this video, Dr. Damir Kapidzic outlines three critical actions the European Union can take to significantly enhance security in Bosnia and Herzegovina:

  • Strengthened Military Commitment: The EU should continue and reinforce its involvement in the ALTHEA security mission within the country, particularly during periods of emerging security risks.
  • Robust Socioeconomic Support: By offering opportunities and a compelling future vision, the EU can help the population feel secure and encourage them to remain in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • Political Vision: A clear statement from the EU that Bosnia and Herzegovina belongs within the European sphere of influence or cooperation, and has a future in the EU, would provide a powerful political signal for a more secure environment.
