REUNIR Confessionals
In this edition, Ambassador Ferit Hoxha, Head of Mission of Albania to the European Union, shares his reflections on the key external threats facing Albania today – and how resilience and progress toward EU accession remain deeply interconnected. Answering the key question:
How do you assess the most important external threats to Albania and its resilience to these external threats?
Ambassador Hoxha highlights that Albania’s main challenges emerge not from direct interstate conflict but from external influences that undermine democracy, stability, and European alignment. These influences, he notes, manifest through security vulnerabilities, financial networks, disinformation campaigns, and media manipulation – tactics that have also affected other countries in the region.
Beyond these visible challenges, Ambassador Hoxha highlights the need to strengthen institutions to strengthen Albania’s economic resilience. Importantly, he identifies a less tangible but equally serious threat: the risk of stagnation on the path to EU membership. Lack of meaningful progress, he warns, could erode momentum and public trust in Albania’s European future.
For Albania, maintaining resilience means continuing reforms, reinforcing trust in democratic processes, and ensuring that EU accession remains both the goal and the guarantee of long-term stability.
